Stand Up (For the Love) – MacMillan Music Video

Screen Shot 2013-03-01 at 09.03.00

A couple of weeks ago I was asked by my good friend Shaun to help film a music video for MacMillan Cancer Research.

Shauns Message “Myself and Lauren have our reasons for wanting to raise money for cancer support, and I’m sure many of you have yours too. So help us raise as much money as possible for MacMillan, who do some really great things for people struck with the news that they, or someone close to them, has cancer.

‘Stand Up (For The Love)’ – Covered by Shaun Reynolds & Lauren Verrier (Originally by Jessie J)

This was an enjoyable, intensely planned shoot; already receiving some fantastic exposure through the power of social networking and word of mouth. Fundraising is amazing because it feels good to make a difference as a united community. To donate, download the song via the iTunes page or the Just Giving page (Add Gift Aid if it applies!) – All proceeds go to MacMillan Cancer Support.

Below is the behind the scenes video, giving you a sense of how much effort was put into this project!

2012 Camera Operator/Editor Showreel

After months of collating footage, editing, reediting well over 10 drafts, it’s finally here! It still needs a bit of tweaking (end title sequence) but other than that, its 99.97% done.

I’ve also uploaded it to YouTube, so the YouTubers can ‘like’ & ‘comment’ etc

Footage featured in the showreel and alongside, my project role(s):

The videos music was produced by the Electro-Swing guru Captain Flatcap,

Track – ‘Funky Farmers’

As mentioned in my previous blog Showreel Update, 2013 is already shaping up to be a good year! This week I shot a charity music video for Macmillan Cancer Research with Shaun Reynolds & Lauren Verrier – new blog on that video – Stand Up for the Love – will be released after the video is live (late Feb 2013) and I have a list of other shoots that will be working on. I’m in the latter stages of creating a Timelapse showreel, since I now have substantial footage; I’m aiming to release this in March.

All collaborations are welcomed with warm open arms!

Cheers!

Sleeping Trees – Not Treasure Island Promo Package

This year, Sleeping Trees have written and performed a brand new show:

‘Not Treasure Island’

I’ve seen the show live about 5 times and each time I’ve left the theatre wiping happy tears from my eye holes. It really is very funny. Anyway, I knocked up a vid to promote ahead of nonstop performances throughout August at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Not Treasure Island – 2012 Promo

In November, I directed a multi-cam shoot of a full performance of Not Treasure Island at Chichester University (Where they study their MA). After the show, I headed to the bar with my 600D to grab some audience feedback in a voxpop styley.

A week or two later, the full performance video was ready, so I sent it off for review. Whilst awaiting feedback, I started working on the DVD cover. Designed mostly in Photoshop CS6, the front cover picture was spliced from the 2012 Ed Fringe poster (designed by Matt Bonner – englishbreakfast.org). On the back it contains the shows synopsis and reviews from professional bodies. The back cover photograph was taken by Thom Pearson.

After some video tweaks and printing the DVD cover, the Promo pack was ready. Below is the DVD menu design (created in DVD Studio Pro); featuring moving images of the Full Performance, Audience Feedback and the 2012 Promo vid (2013 promo vid coming soon) and a 40sec audio track of the poem they recite at the beginning of the show.

I’m signing this project off today, these DVDs will be sent for theatres to snatch the ‘trees’ up well in advance for their Spring tour of 2013!

Arggggg.

Not Treasure Island – Audience Review

Audiences reaction in Voxpop form after a performance of Not Treasure Island by Sleeping Trees Theatre.

Nominated for ‘Emerging Artists’
4*s rating at the Edinburgh Fringe festival by countless reviewers

Sleeping Trees are in pursuit of treasure … if they can remember where it’s been buried. Not Treasure Island tracks the treacherous expeditions of Billy Bones and Long John Silver, two of the most feared and despicable pirates on the sea, as well as the quest of young cabin boy Jim. With squids, merman, fires and fishermen all brought to life, and with only a vinyl record player for company, Sleeping Trees bring together a version of the story the likes of which have never been seen, even by the most ravaged of nautical peepers.

Sleeping Trees in Action (Photography by Thom Pearson)

Sleeping Trees are James Dunnell-Smith, Joshua Smith and John Woodburn. Their work is entirely devised, written and performed from scratch, using stories and established texts as starting points of departure and improvisation. The company are currently embarking on their ‘stories project’; the re-creation of stories without the use of props, scenery or costume, encouraging their audience to use their imaginations when engaging with the work, just as they would if they were reading a book.
